TEAM SA LOGBOOK - 2nd May - Ascension

3rd May 2009 – day stop at Ascension - Felix Kleinwort

This morning we arrived at Ascension island. When I got up for cleaning stations, at 7:00 the Island was only about 3 km away. Even though we could have swum the distance to Ascension after we had dropped our anchor, we still had to wait till 12:30, and only then launched the Zodiacs that would take us to shore. But we had to swim the last bit, because the Zodiacs could only take us to a certain point, so our shoes were wet when we reached land.

When we finally got there we had a lot of fun.

While some of us were lying in the sun or took a swim, I went snorkeling with Andrea and later Gustav and Marx joined us. We saw lots of different fishes, all with different colors. When we were back at the beach after 2 hours, I went snorkeling again with Jonas, because he said that he knows where the turtles are.
But after looking for them for 30 min we eventually gave up and swam back to the beach.

Then a small group of us played water ball, which was a lot of fun. And Monde enjoyed diving around the people. There was also a dog swimming in the little bay that came together with a few locals.

I liked it very much today especially the snorkeling and I am glad that we made that extra stop at Ascension.
