Going Aloft!!!!!!

5 April 2009 – Going Aloft the first time

Time for real action today – Team SA goes aloft …. much anticipation and excitement in the camp: today is the day where team members climb the mast the first time …

And well it went – what a view!

The afternoon was spent with last preparations for the big SASLA event – SASLA, the South African Sail-Training for Life-Skills Association, who supports the campaign towards a South African Tall Ship wherever possible, celebrated it first year of existence. Guest speakers and guest of honour included the Executive Deputy Mayor of the City of Cape Town Grant Haskin as well as Admiral Koos Louw, Patron of SASLA.

Other highlights of the evening were the presentation of Team SA 2008, who had represented South Africa during the Tall Ships’ Races 2008 – see link to their blog further down and of course the introduction of Class Afloat and the West Island College by Head of School Kate Knight and of the Team SA 2009 – well done Helen and Monde – super speech!

Many thanks to SASLA for organizing this event, the SA Jewish Maritime League for sponsoring the 'baaie lekka fish', the Windmeul Cellars for the generous donation of their wine and Sense of Taste for delicious salads. What a feast! Many thanks also to the Royal Cape Yacht Club for hosting the event, in particular to Brigitte for

for smooth organisation and lovely decorations.
