TEAM SA LOGBOOK - 13th May Fernando Island to Natal, Brazil

13th of May 2009. - Gustav Allmann

Our latitude is 16 degrees 16.96 seconds south and our longitude is 34 degrees 30.48seconds west. It is 30 degrees Celsius, our speed is 6.2 knots and we are motoring.

Today there were two main firsts for the South Africans. A captains clean and an open mike night. A captains clean is when we clean the ship, like a guy for when he brings his girlfriend to his room for the first time. Everything gets shined till you can see yourself in whatever it is you are cleaning. It takes several long and hard hours but it has to be done. The reason for us doing it is because once we are in Brazil, health inspectors have to check whether we are bringing any diseases into the country, have any expired food on board and they make sure the ship is in a good hygienic state. After all of this comes the fun part of the job. Everybody changes into their swimming stuff and scrubs as Axel hoses down the whole ship. Its a refreshing job...

Everyone was really tired after the whole ordeal and spending most of the day under the hot and draining sun but still had enough energy to stay upright for the open mike show.

There were some funny performances, some pleasant ones and some "professional" ones. Andy (cook) broke the ice for us with a song that involved everybody. He is not a bad singer at all. Maybe he should think of a career in singing and forget about cooking. Second on the list were Max and Antoine with a very emotional version of "Every time we Touch - Cascada" dressed up as females. Dylon followed with a Christmas Carrol. I think we were all a bit surprised to hear his singing voice. That's what I call a pleasant surprise. Then came Monde and John. Monde was the only South African that signed up to perform. He rapped while John supplied him with beats. Another rap was performed by a quadruplet which consisted of Kate, Claire, Daniella and Chiara. They had something nice to say about everyone. John came back as a one-man-band playing four instruments at the same time. He is really talented. Then Patrick and Claire did what they do best, play the guitar. They chose a great song. Patrick is also extremely talented. The next performance by Bryan, Brandon and myself was not planned, well at least I didn't know. Bryan and Brandon wrote my name down without me knowing. Kate luckily knew about this and when it was my turn she announced all three of us were going to perform Barbie girl. After a minute of hesitation I got up and forced Bryan and Brandon to join me. Obviously we were great and everybody loved our sexy moves. The night was finished off by Miss Faucher's song about her watch group. Very cute...

Everybody is extremely excited for Natal, especially after the I think almost forgotten disappointment of Fernando.
