TEAM SA LOGBOOK - 7th May - Ascension to Fernando Island

7th May 2009 - Monde Sitole
4th sail leg from Ascension to Fernando Island and Natal, Brazil

latitude is: 5 45.714
longitude: 23 7. 875 w

Today was a nice day, I saw the sun rise, the fiery crimson sun radiating promising that it will be a blessed day. The day started with a fiery boys fitness, it was breakfast, then colors where we got our notices and the days expectations. We afterwards proceeded to cleaning stations, cleaned our rooms and departed to our different classes and watches.

In essence the day was very chilled and tranquil not half as busy as yesterday when we had to be clipped in the bosun's chair and we were dipped in the water it was very exhilarating, completely breathtaking.

We had no sailing maneuvers but we were sailing amazing 6.9 nautical miles. I am really enjoying myself, this is life changing. I enjoy helming especially when I am with Felix and Shane. Today I also learned how the GPS and radar works.

The team is also growing, we now know most of the lines and almost all of the sails, we can set and douse some, so its amazing you see the progress when you recap back and actually today we have exactly a full month on sea, we have 6 weeks left. Last night we ended with a dance, everyone was there, same as tonight. We had a drumming or rather a music experience with the bosun - this was a perfect finale to end the day.

Clearly we are getting there.
